6 Emails to Send Before You Launch Your Subscription Box
Aug 23, 2026
Send these 6 emails before your subscription box launch to warm up your waitlist, build trust, and turn interested followers into subscribers.
You’ve been building your audience. You’ve been showing up consistently on social media, growing your email list, and getting people onto your waitlist.
Your waitlist is growing, so you’re ready to launch your subscription box, right?
Not so fast.
There’s an important step between someone raising their hand and saying, “I’m interested,” and that same person pulling out their credit card when you open the doors.
You need to warm up your waitlist.
This pre-launch stage is one of the most important parts of a successful subscription box launch. It’s also one of the parts I see new subscription box owners skip most often.

I’m going to walk you through six emails to send before your subscription box launch. These emails will help you build trust, create connections, and get your waitlist excited about what’s coming.
Where Pre-Launch Fits into Your Subscription Box Marketing Plan
The subscription box marketing plan I teach inside Launch Your Box has five steps:
- Build your audience.
- Build your waitlist.
- Nurture your waitlist during pre-launch.
- Launch your subscription box.
- Focus on retention and keeping the subscribers you worked so hard to get.
Today, we’re focusing on step three.
Because getting someone onto your waitlist isn’t the same thing as getting someone ready to buy.
Your pre-launch period gives you the opportunity to build the connection and trust that helps turn those waitlist members into subscribers when your cart opens.
Inside Launch Your Box, I walk members through the entire launch process with the plans, calendars, trainings, and swipe files they need to put each step into action. But before you worry about the how, you need to understand what needs to happen during these important weeks before your launch.
And it starts with two things your audience needs to believe.
Before They Buy, Your Audience Needs to Believe Two Things
First, they need to believe you are the right person to help them.
People buy from people and brands they trust. That means your audience needs to know who you are, why you created your subscription box, and why you care about the problem it solves.
Have you told your story?
Have you shared it in a video? A social media post? An email? Is it on your website?
Or have you been hiding behind your products and your box?
Your founder story matters.
Second, they need to believe your box solves a problem they actually have.
And yes, your box solves a problem even if you think you’re just selling cute things.
I used to think that about my own subscription box. I thought I was simply selling cute products. But my Style Box helps women put outfits together and feel good about themselves when they walk out the door.
A hobby box might solve the problem of not knowing what project to start or not having the right materials.
A self-care box can help someone make time for themselves.
A pet box makes it easy and convenient to spoil a pet they love.

Before you write any of these emails, ask yourself “What problem does my subscription box solve?”
If you can’t answer that in one sentence yet, start there. Getting clear on that answer will make everything you write, from your pre-launch emails to your sales page to your social content, so much easier.
Then you’re ready to start warming up that waitlist.
Email #1: Introduce Yourself and Your Why
Your first email is all about connection.
Tell your audience why you started your subscription box.
- What sparked the idea?
- Was there a problem you experienced yourself?
- Were you looking for something you couldn’t find?
Your story gives your audience a reason to connect with the person behind the box.
This email should feel conversational. You’re not making an offer. You’re not telling them to buy. You’re simply letting them get to know you.
And don’t skip this email because sharing your story feels uncomfortable. Your audience wants to know the person behind the business.
Email #2: Take Them Behind the Scenes
Now bring the people on your waitlist into the process.
Show them the things that go into creating your subscription box that they wouldn’t normally see.
Maybe you’re deciding between packaging options. Maybe your desk is covered in product samples. Maybe you’re working on your logo or making your first product selections.
Share it.

Behind-the-scenes content helps people feel invested in what you’re creating. Instead of suddenly showing up one day with a perfectly finished subscription box and asking them to buy it, you’re bringing them along for the journey.
By launch day, it already feels familiar to them.
This is also something I teach my Launch Your Box members again and again. Your launch doesn’t start on launch day. The work you do before you ever open the cart matters.
Email #3: Connect Their Pain Point to Your Box
This is where we get more strategic.
Go back to that problem your subscription box solves and talk about it directly.
For my audience, that might mean standing in front of a closet in the morning wondering what to wear. It might mean putting something on, looking in the mirror, and not feeling good in it.
That’s the pain point.
Then I can show how the Style Box helps solve it by giving her new pieces that work together and help refresh her closet without spending hours shopping and trying things on.
Do the same thing with your box.
What is your ideal customer dealing with right now?
And how does receiving your subscription box make that easier, better, more convenient, or more enjoyable?
Don’t rush this one.
The clearer you get about the problem you solve and the benefits your box provides, the easier it becomes to talk about your box everywhere else, too.
Email #4: Go Behind the Scenes Again
Yes, again.
This time, you’re further along in the process.
Show your audience what’s happening as the box comes together. Maybe you’re packing products, testing something, checking quality, sourcing products, or sharing a trip to market.
People love seeing the process, especially when they’ve been following along from the early stages. Every glimpse makes them feel a little more connected to what you’re building.
You’re not just showing them the finished box. You’re letting them be part of how it came together.

Email #5: Tell Them Why They Deserve This Box
This is an email a lot of subscription box owners might not think to send.
Give your audience permission to buy.
People - especially women - can feel guilty spending money on themselves. They’re taking care of kids, spouses, families, parents, and everyone else on their list.
Remind them that it’s okay to do something for themselves, too.
For a hobby or self-care box, that connection might be obvious. But this email can work for almost any type of subscription.
Even with a pet box, there’s a benefit for the person buying it. Their pet gets something special, and they get the convenience of having it show up at their door without adding another errand to their list.
Think about why your customer deserves the experience, enjoyment, solution, or convenience your box provides.
Then tell them.
Email #6: Tease the Launch and Save the Date
Until this point, these emails have been about nurturing your audience, not selling to them.
Email number six is the bridge.
Tell your waitlist the exact date and time your subscription box will open for sales. Remind them about any special benefits they receive for being on your waitlist, whether that’s early access, special pricing, a bonus item, or something else you’ve planned.
Your subject line can be as simple as:
- Mark your calendar.
- The wait is almost over.
- Save the date.

You’ve spent the past several emails helping these people understand who you are, why you created this box, what problem it solves, and what’s been happening behind the scenes.
Now you’re giving them the information they need to be ready when the doors open.
And once they do, you move into the launch itself.
Inside Launch Your Box, members have my complete launch plan along with calendars and swipe files that show them what to do once they reach this stage. You’re not sitting there on launch day wondering, “Okay, now what?”
You have a plan to follow.
How Often Should You Email Your Waitlist Before Launch?
I recommend sending these six emails over about two to three weeks leading up to your launch.
That works out to roughly one email every two or three days.
There’s another benefit to doing this consistently. You’re getting your audience used to hearing from you more frequently before you move into your launch emails.
You’re building anticipation without overwhelming them.
And you don’t need to wait until you have your launch date on the calendar to get started.
Write them now. Save them in your email platform. Have them ready when you need them.
The more you prepare ahead of time, the less you’ll be scrambling when it’s time to launch.
Your Pre-Launch Emails Are Just the Beginning
Once you launch, the goal changes.
You’re no longer only trying to turn waitlist members into subscribers. Now you need to keep the subscribers you have engaged and excited while continuing to show non-subscribers what they’re missing.
That’s why I created a free swipe file with 5 emails you can send every single month.
You’ll get swipe copy for a monthly unboxing email, subscriber share email, five ways to use your box, a box sneak peek, and a behind-the-scenes email.
Customize them for your subscription box and start sending. Download them HERE.
And if you’re ready for more than the what - if you want the how behind building your audience, growing your waitlist, preparing for your launch, launching your box, and keeping your subscribers - that’s exactly what we do inside Launch Your Box.

Wherever you are in your subscription box journey, start with one email.
Write your origin story. Tell people why you created this box. Let them get to know you.
Because your launch doesn’t start when you open the doors. It starts with the work you do to make sure the right people are ready to walk through them.
