The Power of Building Your Business with Like-Minded People
Aug 03, 2025
You don’t have to build your business alone. Discover the power of community and how to find your people as a subscription box owner.
“I’ll just do it myself.”
How many times have you said that? Probably more than you can count.
As women, we’re used to figuring things out on our own. It’s usually faster – and easier – to just do something ourselves. No arguments with teenagers who don’t do it the first (or seventh) time we ask. No redoing a job someone in the house didn’t do the way we would have done it.
Our day-to-day looks like juggling busy schedules, solving problems, and getting things done. And while that mindset can serve us in some areas of life, it can hold us back in business.
When I started my business, I thought being a “solopreneur” meant doing everything by myself. The decisions, the strategy, the marketing, the shipping — it all landed on my shoulders. I didn’t think I had a choice. And when I started my subscription box, I thought I had to figure that all out by myself, too.
But I was wrong.
One of the best things I’ve ever done for my business — and for myself — was surrounding myself with like-minded people. People who got it. People who were building businesses of their own. People who understood the highs, the lows, and the in-between moments that come with chasing a dream.
I want the same for you.
Let’s talk about how you can shift out of the “I have to do this alone” mindset and start building your business with a community that supports and uplifts you.
The Myth of the Solopreneur
There’s a lot of talk online about the “solopreneur life.” And, yes, it’s amazing to be in charge of your own business. Your own schedule. Your own dreams. But being a solopreneur doesn’t have to mean being alone.
When you’re just getting started, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking:
- No one understands what I’m trying to do.
- I don’t have time to explain everything to someone else.
- I don’t want to bother people with my questions.
- I’ll just figure it out myself.
But that mindset can lead to burnout, frustration, and missed opportunities.
The truth? You weren’t meant to do this alone. None of us was.
Finding My People Changed Everything
I found my “biz besties” inside a Facebook Group for a course I was taking. At first, it was casual — we were just going through the course together. But pretty quickly, we realized how powerful it was to have people who were “doing the thing” with us.
We started messaging. A lot. Sharing long conversations and sharing parts of our lives outside of our businesses. Then we started traveling together.
Years later, those women are my closest friends and biggest supporters. We take trips together a few times a year – part business, part fun, and always full of encouragement, honesty, and a lot of laughter.
We’ve walked through hard launches, broken tech, tough family seasons, and major wins. And we’ve never done it alone.
Meet some of these amazing women and learn more about their business journeys and our story as a close-knit group of successful businesswomen in Episode 200 of the Launch Your Box Podcast.
Finding those relationships made me a better business owner. A more grounded person. A more confident decision-maker. These friendships add so much to my life – and my business.
And they help to remind me that community is a strategy, too.
Community Is a Small Business’s Superpower
As subscription box owners, we know the power of community. We build it with our audience and our subscribers every single day.
That sense of connection and belonging is something big businesses wish they could replicate. But we get to do it in a way that’s real and personal. We answer DMs, remember names, and send thoughtful “surprise and delights” in our boxes to show them they’re seen and valued.
That’s our superpower.
So why wouldn’t we do the same for ourselves?
Imagine what’s possible when you take the time to intentionally build that kind of community around you. A support system that lifts you up, cheers you on, and reminds you that you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
You Need People Who “Get It”
Not every community will be a good fit. That’s why it’s important to know what you’re looking for.
Start by asking yourself:
- Do these people understand the kind of business I’m building?
- Do we share values and similar goals?
- Are they generous with ideas and support, or are they gatekeeping?
- Can I bring my full self into this space, even when (especially when) I’m struggling?
Inside Launch Your Box, we’ve created a community that’s built on generosity, encouragement, and real-life support. Yes, you’ll find strategies and resources (everything you need to start, launch, and grow your subscription box). But you’ll also find people who truly see you and want you to succeed.
I’ve watched members find their biz besties right inside the group. They brainstorm together. They support each other’s launches. Sometimes they even meet up in real life.
It’s not just about learning. It’s about growing together.
Business Is Hard. You Need Emotional Support, Too.
There’s a side of entrepreneurship we don’t talk about enough: the emotional rollercoaster.
- One day, you’re on top of the world after a big subscriber milestone.
- The next, you’re questioning everything because one email flopped.
That’s normal. And it’s exactly why you need people around you who understand what it’s like.
Your partner, your mom, or your best friend might be supportive, but if they’re not running a business, they just won’t get it.
That’s why community matters. The kind of community that says, “I’ve been there. Here’s what helped me.” Or even just, “I see you. You’re not alone.”
Inside a group like Launch Your Box, those conversations happen every single day. It’s a space where you can be honest, ask for help, share a win, or just say, “Today was hard.”
And those moments? They matter just as much as your subscriber count.

Where to Find Like-Minded Business Owners
If you’re wondering where to start building these kinds of relationships, here are a few ideas:
- Facebook Groups – Look for groups where everyone is focused on similar goals.
- Courses & Workshops – Don’t just take the training. Engage in the community that comes with it!
- Masterminds – These can be great for strategy and accountability (so important).
- Local Networking or Moms Groups – You’d be surprised how many women are quietly building amazing businesses right alongside you.
- Launch Your Box – Of course, I have to mention the amazing community inside Launch Your Box. It’s a place where subscription box owners lift each other up and make progress together.
Imagine What We Can Do Together
You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to pretend you’re not overwhelmed. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
There are women out there who are ready to cheer you on, brainstorm with you, cry with you if you need it, and celebrate your wins like they’re their own.
And when you combine that kind of support with the creativity and enthusiasm you already have? That’s where the magic happens.
We already know how to build community for our customers. Let’s build it for ourselves, too.
Because when we do?
We don’t just grow stronger businesses. We grow stronger together.
